Jeremy B. Smith

Board Certified Specialist in State Criminal Law

As a former Assistant District Attorney now working as a defense attorney, Jeremy Smith has extensive experience working within the criminal process. He takes pride in representing his clients by being detailed, diligent, and aggressive while simultaneously having the personal touch that is necessary to effectively discuss his clients’ defenses with prosecuting attorneys.

Jeremy strongly believes that “innocent until proven guilty” should actually mean something, and is therefore staunch in his defense of his clients that have been charged with a crime. Whether it is DWI, a serious felony, or a federal charge, Jeremy understands that his client’s case is important to them and treats each case with the attention it deserves.

A native North Carolinian, Jeremy attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for both his undergraduate studies and law school. He graduated with undergraduate degrees in Psychology with Highest Honors and with a second degree in U.S. History. Jeremy also graduated from UNC-CH law, earning a Juris Doctor degree with Honors.

Prior to entering into private practice, Jeremy acted as an Assistant District Attorney in the District Attorney’s Office for both the 8th (Wayne, Lenoir, and Greene Counties) and 20B Districts (Union County). There, he gained extensive jury trial experience, having tried everything from First Degree Murder, Sex Crimes, and Financial Crimes, down to District Court, where he tried countless Driving While Impaired cases, along with other misdemeanor crimes.

Eventually, Jeremy wanted to fulfill his dream of running his own firm. He took his philosophy of personal service for clients and went into private practice. Now, Jeremy can serve his clients—no matter their circumstances—with the professionalism and honesty he believes is necessary and deserved by everyone that comes in his door.

In his free time, Jeremy enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter, and son. He also loves off-shore fishing, golf, and going to Carolina Panthers football games.
